How did the Renaissance contribute to the opening of the mind in Europe? Renaissance means “rebirth”. As like it’s definition Renaissance was rebirth to the whole world starting from the Europe. It was rebirth of the art, literature and a whole lot other things. I think Renaissance was the turning point of the Europe. During the Renaissance, the whole style of the art changed by the style the artist drew, the subject that they drew on and etc. Before this time period, most of the paintings were based on a christianity. However, after the Renaissance, artists drew with their own imagination. Also during the Renaissance, the paint became more realistic. Three point perspective drawing improved and there was shades and tints added to the paint.
Why Europe gains dominance?
Europe gains dominance because first of all, most of people were wealthy. They could buy something if they wanted to. Also they had many people who were famous, known to the whole world, such as Da Vinchi or Queen Elizabeth. They had influenced other countries by art or religion. Their creativity increased since they weren't restrained from the christianity. They didn't create art based on religion, they started to put their own thinking into their art. As the time passed, churches lost some of their power.
In section 1, Heretical Beliefs, the historian gives his account of a historical event. What is happening to Hogsflesh? What is the historian's “story” or main point of the article?
Hogsflesh was penanced almost naked and carrying a faggot. If a person is convicted of heresy, he would get self- punished.
2. What are the roles of a historian defined by John Arnold? Do you agree or disagree with his assumptions? Can you think of any other roles? The roles of the historian is to read records of trial and penance, report on what he or she finds there, and inform the wider world about the past. I agree because I think historians do keep a record and study about them. The other roles I can think of is writing a book about a certain event.
3. What is meant by “treat(ing) their sources with fidelity?” Remember to put your response in your own words. Why is it important to remember this when reading historical references? Treating their sources with fidelity means keeping a records with loyalty. It would be important because people can trust the records and based on the record, they would do the right thing.
4. How can a single event be interpreted in more than one way? Can you think of an event in your life that historians could interpret with differing points of view? A single even can be interpreted in more than one way because every people think differently. For example, I started to play soccer last year. Some might think I started it for a diet, or others might think I started it because I was really good at it.
5.Talk to a family member or friend about something that happened to you both a long time ago. Examine how you both remember the incident and write about it. With that in mind, when attaching meaning to history, is it possible for a historian to be completely objective? Use examples from the incident you just discussed to reinforce your response. My brother and I both sprained a bone when we were both young. To me, the memory was awful because I can still remember the pain and having a cast in hot summer is very uncomfortable. However, to my brother, he said it wasn’t really awful because he thought having a cast was cool at that time. No, it is not possible for a historian to be completely objective because they are human. They’re supposed to have feelings. For example, it’s true we had a different feeling about the accident, but the similarity is we both had some kind of feeling.
6. What problems may arise when historians practice subjective history? In what ways may subjective history be beneficial to the study of history? Think back to the incident you just discussed with your family member or friend. Why did it make sense for you to remember the event the way you did and for the other person to remember it the way he or she did? What does this tell us about history? Having a different opinions may arise when historians practice subjective history. They might have a problem with coming up with single result. Subjective history be beneficial to the study of history because although there might be a side effect, hearing other people’s opinion is a good thing when they have to vote for something. It made sense for me to remember the event the way I did and for my brother to remember because it was both of our first experience and the felling was to powerful to be forgotten. This tell us about the history that when a person is being subjective, the history that the person is learning might be in their brain for a long time, or even forever.
7. Why is every historian "a storyteller?" If all historians are storytellers and there are myriad versions of every story, can we trust historians? Why or why not? Every historian is a storyteller because when they write a book, it’s always after the primary source. They also have audiences. If there’s a myriad versions of every story, we still can trust historians because although they are in different versions, they will teach us the same lesson, but in different ways.
8. How did your view of history and historians change based on this reading? How will you approach history now that you have explored these views? Views of history changed after I read this because I got to know more jobs that’s for historians. I now know history can be interpreted into different ways, so there might be other opinions other than mine.

Why is an understanding between culture necessary in order to understand history?
Understanding between culture is necessary in order to understand history because in order to know why that certain thing is a culture, you have to know the history first. Since the culture comes from ages before, knowing the history might help you to find out more information about that certain culture. It might depend on what was happening during that time, why it was happening or how it was happening.
